Ep #78: Why Managers Can’t Actually Hold Employees Accountable

I know, you’re thinking this flies in the face of everything I teach, right? But it doesn’t. Listen and you’ll understand why.

What you’ll learn from this episode:

  • You can’t really make employees do anything.
  • The best you can do is to hold yourself accountable and ask yourself some very important questions.
  • Then you have to address what is working and what is not, and
  • You have to be clear about what will happen if they improve and what will happen if they don’t.

Featured on the Show and Other Notes:

1) I’ll be offering a face-to-face workshop in California in June or July 2017 on how to lead, coach and manage difficult people. I’ll also be including a two-day certification and partnership program if you want to take this content and do the work in your organization. All told, it will be a three day workshop for some of you, and a one day workshop if you just want to come as a manager and get the tools you need to lead, coach and manage difficult people. If you’re interested in that, send an email to kris@krisplachy.com and I’ll put you on the notification list.

2) I’ll be enrolling people in The Core program again in the next week or so. Keep checking the www.leadershipcoachlearning.com website or email me directly if you’re ready to get started.

3) If you haven’t subscribed to my blog, you’ll find more great tools there. I write one every week. They’re called “Difficult People Remedies.” Go to www.leadershipcoachllc.com and at the bottom of the page is a box to subscribe. In a future podcast or blog post, I’ll be writing about how we address behavior that doesn’t change.
