Ep #85: Getting Told You Need to Work on Your People Skills

Here are just a few basic things you may want to address when you’re told you need to work on your people skills:

What you’ll learn from this episode:

  1. What it means to be told you need to work on your people skills.
  2. How to tell your face that you’re happy to see people.
  3. Communicating in writing – things to do and things not to do.
  4. You don’t necessarily have to be nice, but be kind.
  5. Engage with people and recognize patterns.

Featured on the Show and Other Notes:

  • I’m redesigning my website mid-August sometime. If you can’t find me for some reason, you can email me at kris@krisplachy.com.
  • Be kind. You don’t have to be nice. People assume being nice is weak, so they avoid being nice. But kindness isn’t weakness. Kindness is strength. To be kind, notice others in the room. Ask them questions and make them part of the conversation. I wrote a blog The Eight Most Avoidable Leadership Fails that you may want to check out.
  • How we behave in the world comes from how we feel. How we feel comes from what we think about. So if you’re acting curt or abrupt, notice how you feel and know that is what triggers your behavior. I have a book called So You’re the Difficult One that you may want to check out. It’s on my website here.
