You can’t turn around team performance sitting in meetings.
To change outcomes on the team:
Be with them.
Meet with them.
Share feedback with them.
Teach them how to win.
Stop talking TO and AT them.
Start sharing their own strengths and opportunities with them.
Coach them how to be better… ‘them’, not just better listeners to your opinions and ideas.
Be IN the team, not around the team.
Leaders who invest ‘in’, rather than ‘about’ will find their teams perform better.
Communication, connection, engagement, and retention all improve,
when managers spend time investing in the players, not just the game.
Look at every meeting on your calendar.
Ask yourself: Will attending this meeting drive team performance? It’s a YES or a NO.
Choose.
Tell your boss.
Make arrangements.
Stop talking about how many damn meetings you have to go to and decide not to attend them.
AND if you plan all these meetings, please STOP IT.
You’re killing morale.
Damaging culture.
And s-l-o-w-i-n-g down productivity.
To solve any performance problem, you have to focus IN, not out.
