So many of us think we’re doing it wrong.
We’re managing wrong.
We’re coaching wrong.
We’re not good enough at this or that.
We hold ourselves up to some ideal that may or may not even exist.
Here’s what I think.
I do think that all of us are doing the best we can, with the tools we have.
I don’t think anyone is doing it wrong.
I just think most of us are not supervising ourselves very well.
We feel emotion.
We take action.
And we don’t realize where it comes from.
We blame our internal feelings and our external behavior on others.
That’s where we all have room to grow.
Other people and other circumstances do not MAKE us do or feel anything.
The definition we give to our life and the people in it, determines how we act.
When we can learn to supervise ourselves and understand that our minds are operating all the time,
We have an opportunity to explore our own choices and the impact of those choices.
If we aren’t happy with outcomes, there’s no need for judgement.
Judgement just keeps us stuck.
Guilt, shame, embarrassment are all normal emotions to feel as a human.
But they aren’t productive.
If you’ve done something or said something you wish you hadn’t, it’s okay.
Notice.
Understand why you behaved that way.
Choose a new option.
And practice it.
You’re not bad at it.
You just haven’t practiced a new way yet.
But we can all change and choose and become better at whatever it is we decide to focus on.
But it requires our own attention and our ability to supervise ourselves.
