We all have skills and talents that we’re really good at, but sometimes those skills and talents can appear differently to people than we intend for them to. It’s important to be aware of how those superpowers may be working against you. Here are some tips for creating awareness for yourself.

- Figure out what your superpowers are. Think about what the strengths are that you lean on on a regular basis.
- Then ask yourself how that superpower looks to others. What are the potential flip sides of that superpower both for you and for others? I.e. – What might a crazy amount of motivation look like to someone else? It could be inspiring and motivating, but it could also be overwhelming and aggressive.
- Next ask how that superpower might impact others – not just your team but your colleagues and your boss.
- Lastly, ask yourself when do you overuse your superpower. It’s probably in times of stress, right? Know what triggers you to overuse your superpower. Make sure you’re able to recognize it before you just start reacting. Figure out how you can leverage that superpower but not react in a way that’s ineffective.
